Google Business Profile and Your Website: How to Make Them Work Together

By the Coast Creative team4 min read

For most local businesses, Google Business Profile brings in more calls than any page on their website. It's the listing that shows up in Maps and the local results, with your hours, reviews and a call button. But the profile and the website aren't separate things. Google looks at both to decide who to show, and customers often check both before they call.

When they agree with each other and point to each other the right way, you show up more often and convert more of the people who find you. Here's how to line them up.

Make the basics match exactly

Your business name, address and phone number should be identical on your profile and your website. Same suite number format, same phone number, same spelling. If your website says "Suite 200" and your profile says "#200," that's minor. If one shows an old phone number, that's a real problem.

Put this information in your website's footer so it appears on every page, and on your contact page with a map. Hours should match too, including holiday hours. Few things annoy a customer more than driving over because Google said you were open.

Send the profile link to the right page

Your profile has a website field, and most businesses point it at their homepage without thinking. That's often the wrong choice.

If you have more than one location, link each profile to that location's own page. If you're a service business with one main offer, link to the page that explains it best. The page should mention the city you serve, show your contact information and make it easy to call or book.

Track what the profile sends you

Add simple tracking tags, called UTM parameters, to the website link in your profile. Then your analytics can show exactly how many visits came from Google Business Profile versus regular search results. Without them, profile traffic often gets lumped in with everything else, and you can't tell what's working.

Use the same categories and services on both

Your primary category on Google matters more than almost anything else on the profile. Choose the one that matches what you most want to be found for, then make sure your website has a clear page about that same service.

Add your services in the profile's services section too, using the same names you use on your website. When Google sees a profile category, a list of services and matching website pages all saying the same thing, it has more confidence in showing you.

Put your reviews to work in both places

Reviews live on your profile, but they should help your website too. Feature a few strong ones on your homepage and service pages, quoted exactly and with the reviewer's first name.

Make it easy to leave new reviews by linking to your review form from your website, your email signature and your receipts. Reply to every review on the profile, good or bad. People read the replies, and they show you're paying attention.

Keep photos fresh on both

Upload real photos to your profile regularly: your team, your work, your location. Use the same real photos on your website, not stock images. A profile full of recent photos looks active, and a website that matches it looks trustworthy.

Post updates when you have news

Profile posts are short updates that appear on your listing. They're not a huge ranking factor, but they make your profile look alive and give people a reason to click. When you publish something useful on your website, like a new service, a seasonal offer or a helpful article, post a short version to your profile with a link back.

Check it every few months

Profiles can change without you noticing. Google sometimes accepts edits suggested by the public, like new hours or a different category. Log in every few months, review everything and fix anything that's wrong.

Every website we build includes the basics that make this work: consistent business details on every page, location and service pages that match your profile, and structured data that tells search engines who you are. If yours needs a tune-up, every project gets a fixed quote before work begins.
